The evolution toward sixth-generation (6G) wireless networks is transforming positioning, localization, and sensing from auxiliary network functionalities into fundamental capabilities of future intelligent wireless systems. Driven by advances in ultra-wideband communications, massive and distributed antenna arrays, millimeter-wave and terahertz technologies, nearfield propagation, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces, integrated sensing and communication, non-terrestrial networks, and artificial intelligence, 6G networks are expected to provide unprecedented spatial awareness and situational intelligence. These capabilities will enable a wide range of emerging applications, including autonomous transportation, unmanned aerial vehicles, robotics, extended reality, smart factories, digital twins, healthcare, and low-altitude intelligent systems.
Despite significant progress, realizing accurate, reliable, scalable, and intelligent positioning, localization, and sensing in complex and dynamic environments remains challenging. Fundamental research questions arise from harsh propagation conditions, network synchronization, hardware impairments, mobility, interference, limited radio resources, heterogeneous sensing modalities, distributed network architectures, privacy and security requirements, and the integration of communication, computation, localization, and sensing functionalities. Moreover, emerging technologies such as AI-native wireless networks, foundation models, semantic communications, and spatial intelligence are creating new opportunities for environment-aware and context-aware localization and sensing systems.
This workshop aims to bring together researchers, practitioners, and industry experts from wireless communications, signal processing, sensing, machine learning, robotics, and related fields to discuss recent advances, fundamental challenges, enabling technologies, and emerging applications of positioning, localization, and sensing for 6G networks. The workshop will provide a forum for presenting novel theoretical frameworks, algorithms, architectures, experimental platforms, datasets, and real-world demonstrations, while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and identifying promising research directions toward intelligent and spatially aware 6G systems.
