Liaocheng-A Water City Producing Famous Donkey-Hide Gelatin
Liaocheng City is situated in the west of Shandong Province on the north bank of the Yellow River. It is separated from Hebei Province by the Zhangwei River to the west and from Henan Province by the Yellow River to the south. Within Shandong, it borders on Jining, Tai'an and Jinan to the southeast and Dezhou to the north.
Water is the soul of Liaocheng. It has Dongchang Lake, the largest urban lake in the north of China. In addition, there are many rivers running through Liaocheng. Dong’e Donkey-hide gelatin, a kind of medicinal material that nourishes blood and protects the fetus, is also originated from here. As for Liaocheng travel, Visitors can go to the Canal Museum to learn about the history and function of the canal.
The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal passes through the hinterland of Liaocheng. It once connected the political center in the north of China and the economic center in the southern area, bringing Liaocheng 400-year of economic and cultural prosperity. In modern times, relying on the Beijing-Kowloon Railway, Liaocheng also plays a central role in driving the economic development of the cites in western Shandong. With the construction of many high-speed rails and airport projects, Liaocheng becomes a transportation hub city.
